The broadcasted delegate convention of the opposition, Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) which was scheduled for the 19th, 20th, and 21st August 2016 will be deferred “because of the prevailing circumstances”.
This was disclosed by one of the aspirants for the position of National Publicity Secretary SLPP, Mr. Kalilu Ibrahim Totangi, who has been an ordinary member, but in that capacity have acted as spokesman of the party and communication consultant of the SLPP which are not elected positions.
He said the convention, which will bring together delegates around Sierra Leone, and those in the diaspora will be deferred “because there was a problem with regards the lower level elections so it was postponed,” adding that until the lower level election is conducted there will be no delegate conference.
Mr. Totangi also stated that, another reason why the convention will be deferred is “the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC) has said that after the party has compiled the delegate list, the SLPP should present it to them (PPRC) 21 days before the election.”
“Nobody knows when the election. It was supposed to be the 19th, 20th, 21st August 2016 but because of the prevailing circumstances I know that it is going to be deferred but am sure it will not be long,” he said.
Mr. Totangi said during the convention, all of the 31 members of the national executive including the Chairman and Leader, the four Regional Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Organising Secretary, Public Relations Officer, among others will be contested.
During the convention, he said they will be discussing issues pertaining to the party, chairman, Secretary General, Financial Secretary delivering their reports including other important issues, a day or two for the election.
