Former Sierra Leone Deputy Defence Minister, Major (Rtd) Paolo Conteh has been refused bail by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

Paolo Conteh appear before the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) today in Freetown for questioning on various military procurement issues when he was in charge.

However, he has now been arrested and refused bail. ACC sources says he is now being taken to be locked up in a cell at the CID.

Paolo Conteh is among the three major arms and ammunition investigations the Sierra Leone army is currently undergoing. He is also been wanted for various corruption offences perpetrated during the Ernest Bai Koroma administration.

The Police had on 7 July discovered two bundles of combat tents and 12 empty ammunition boxes at the residence of the former defence and internal affairs minister. Police say they made the discovery acting on a tip off, but Conteh has denied any sinister intentions.

Sannah Marrah, the former Director General of the Ministry of Defence has similarly been arrested for alleged corruption.

With his arrest, he is likely not going to be released until the new year.
