The Minister of Energy, Alhahi Kanja Sesay and his Deputy, Dr E. T. Taylor on Tuesday April 9, 2019, received a team of potential investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Ministry of Energy in Freetown.

The rationale for that was to present key pending projects especially in solar and hydro (Renewable Energy) in the energy sector for possible interventions.

The Minister and his technical team led by Dr Patrick Tarawalli presented priority areas including transmission and distribution lines of various regions across the country, interconnections, solar systems in the districts, hydropower plants projects etc. The Ministry gave a brief status of each project before taking a tour to the Newton Solar Park project.

At the store and site visited, the visiting investors were impressed with the progress of this UAE project made so far. It is a 6 MW solar system that can be fed into the main grid of Bumbuna. It has an area of about 72,000 square meters, 40,000 square meters area of solar panels with about 18,000 panels.

According to the project manager, Mr Elie Yasmine, the civil work is ongoing and the PV part of it would follow in two weeks’ time. The contractor too was present in the site tour who assured all present that a commissioning of this special project in Sierra Leone would happen soon.
