Serious crisis is brewing in SLPP Kenema chapter between supporters of the former Chairman and Leader JOB, who is also flag bearer aspirant for the 2018 presidential election as they clashed with supporter of Julius Maada Bio at Blama Road during which one Daddy was stabbed to death and several others injured.
Both party supporters in the district are at war with each other, economic and business activities in the town was on Friday night was marred with panic as people closed shops and headed for home.
The Cold War which resulted to the death of JOBs strong supporter from Segbewema Daddy leave many in shocked.
According to the member of Parliament for constituency 14 Hon. Francis Konowah, John O. Benjamin (JOB), Alpha Timbo, Chief Somanoh Kapen and others were in the district to settle disputes between district executive members.
“The district executive headed by Joseph Sannoh and other de facto executive members who are claiming powers at hierarchy level within the SLPP in the township were called to a meetings to chart a way forward for peace to return in the party in the Keneman chapter,” Hon. Konowah explained.
He stressed that after several meetings were held between them as members of Parliament and other party stakeholders in the district in order to resolve the long dispute, they were shocked to have heard that other crisis was brewing in another part of the town.
“District Chairman, mayor and other important members gathered at ‘Cenava’ for the meeting and after eight o’clock in the evening the AIG Eastern Region Alfred Karrow Kamara instructed us to go home quietly because there was some amount of security implications,” he stated.
The law maker said that immediately after the meeting he was informed by AIG Karrow that one of JOB supporters from Segbewema by the name of Daddy was stabbed to death by one Fonie, alias Abacha an alleged supporter of Bio.
“The mob who got infuriated by the death of their colleague took the corpse of the victim in a wheel-barrow and headed to the morgue at the Kenema Government Hospital,” he added.
According to AIG Karrow Kamara the suspect Fonie, alias Abacha a former military man, is noted for his notoriety and has been arrested and detained at the Kenema Police Division with another suspect but the AIG refused to mention his name.
AIG Kamara informed New Vision that the police had earlier warned all supporters to abstained from troublemaking but the warning fell on deaf ear as they went ahead pounced on their colleagues party members because they refused to toe their line.
The mob Konowah explained, did not end at that, they inflicted deep cut on other people rendering them unconscious.
However, this reporter visited the scene of the incident and fierce-looking policemen were on their guard.
AIG concluded that they have commenced full investigation and appealed to resident to resist any incitement against the security agent, vowing to apply the full weight of the law against culprit.
The body of the deceased is at morgue in Kenema awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile, JOB is also reported to have been in the district campaigning for the flag bearer position to run the affairs of the party to election.
According to his campaign coordinator in Koyagba section, Francis Lahai said his boss was in the district to pilot the affairs of his political campaign in Kenema.
He added that JOB was primarily in the township to educate the delegates in preventing unfamiliar party members disloyal to the party hierarchy so as to ensure that the flag bearer position of the party did not slip into the hands f party sycophants who might let loose in future and allow any other party in the district to unseat SLPP.
“We in the SLPP, specifically JOB supporters view that as dangerous and any mistakes at conducting a primary that could produce unwanted choice of the party will not hold,” he stated.
That development, this reporter gathered, is currently causing ripples among the party members who are not comfortable with the situation n the district.
“In a meeting on Friday last week, JOB promised to take the party to the next level, and assured that he will carry everybody along in his administration as flag bearer without fear or favor,” said Francis Lahai.
Essentially, he added, JOB promised to ensure that peace reigns in the party. He called on all elders in the district not to use their positions and influence to intimidate members, but to imbue the spirit of transparency and accountability in chosen the party leaders.
JOB was said to have mobilized, canvassed the length and breath of the east for his political victory for the convention.
