One of the ruling Members of Parliament (MP) Madam Rosaline J. Smith of Constituency 103, Clinetown last Thursday referred to President Ernest Bai Koroma as “Munku President” meaning (an uncivilized or un cultured person).
Awoko reports that She made this statement in the well of Parliament after the Chairman of the Committee on Appointment and the Public Service Hon. Ibrahim R. Bundu had presented four Presidential nominees for approval.
The four Presidential nominees who have been unanimously approved by the House include Sulaiman Bah; Director of Public Prosecution, Miss Miatta French; Electoral Commissioner Western Area, Derek Beoku Betts; Member Sierra Leone Insurance Commission, Mrs Macella Florence Samba Sesay; Member Sierra Leone Millennium Challenge Cooperation Unit.
While some of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party MPs were advising the Presidential nominees and cautioning Miss Miatta French to handle the coming National Election professionally and credibly, Madam Smith said she believed that Madam Miatta French will do her best stating that it is left with the opposition MPs to do their best.
As some ruling MP’s cheered her, she continued “As for us in the All People’s Congress, people appreciate the munku President, munku ministers, munku politicians and munku MP for the work we are doing”.
According to Hon. Leonard S. Fofanah, the Committee takes it job very seriously stating that they have judged the nominees and they believe they are adequately qualified.
He said they have not only considered their (nominees) information to the Committee but also looked in to information from the public, advising them that they should keep up to their promises and not to let down the President stating that failure is not part of their party.
