The Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Bangura said in Koidu City on Saturday 7th May, 2016 that the biggest tax payers in the country are the two major telecommunications companies in Sierra Leone, Africell and Airtel.
Mr. Bangura commended both companies for their role in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease, which ravaged the country for well over a year.
The Information and Communications Minister called on the two major GSM operators to expand their coverage to remote areas in the country.
Mr. Bangura commended the Chairman, Board of Commissioners and Staff of NATCOM for successfully organizing the Fifth Consumer Parliament in Koidu City. He said he was impressed with the frank discussions and called on NATCOM, to be organizing such interactive sessions to enable consumers to put their concerns directly to the key players in the telecommunications industry.
Airtel was publicly condemned for the poor quality of their services.
Africell was praised for meeting their Corporate Social Responsibility throughout the country.
The Minister of State, East, Karamoh Kabba called on all GSM operators to improve on their poor customer service.
Hon. Habib Munda of Kenema called on both Africell and Airtel to expand their coverage to some remote parts of his constituency.
