The Minister of Information and Communications, Alpha Kanu has unveiled himself as the true owner of the Africa Travel Centre.
Alpha Kanu, made this known while reacting to allegation of recklessly spending government money on a Billion Leones worth leadership training.
Kanu said that, it was a Government policy to empower citizens to undertake professional development courses for the good of the country.
“I am not the first person to have benefitted from this policy. Many people in the Government have also benefitted from professional development courses sponsored by the Government of Sierra Leone”, Kanu told Global times.
He further admitted that, the travel agency that sells airline tickets to all the officials in his Ministry is owned by him. “Africa Travel Centre is mine”, the Minister said.
Africa Travel Centre has been accused of inflating the cost of airline tickets for officials in the Ministry of Information and Communications headed by the company’s owner, Hon. Alpha Kanu.
Last week, the Chairman of the Appropriation Sub-Committee in Parliament, Hon. Binneh Bangura raised serious concern over the colossal sum of money spent by the Minister of Information on leadership training courses at the Harvard Kennedy School in the USA.
On a single trip to the USA, the Ministry of Information paid Africa Travel Centre Le67m (Sixty seven Million Leones) as air ticket cost for Hon. Alpha Kanu.
On another trip to London for a cyber security conference, the Ministry of Information paid Le69m (Sixty nine Million Leones) as cost of air ticket to Africa Travel Centre on behalf of the Information and Communications Minister, Hon. Alpha Kanu.
