The National Chairman and Leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party Chief Sumano Kapen yesterday walked-out from the first day session of their party’s two days convention being held in Kenema.

In his absence his Principal Assistant Dr. Prince Harding presided over the convention.

When Chief Kapen was contacted, he said he had pulled out of the contest for re-election at the convention, and that he was already in Freetown.

Sources close to Chief Kapen disclosed that the Chairman left the delegate conference feeling maltreared.

He said Chief was in the Hall at 9am, which is the stipulated time for that day’s session to commence, but there was alteration on the time from 9am to 3pm which was not communicated to him.

However the source said he later learnt that, and went away.

He said Chief returned to the Hall at 3pm as rescheduled but the event did not start until when Maada Bio arrived at 5Pm.

“Virtually Prince Harding and Badara Kamara the Secretary General were waiting for Bio to start the session” the source emphasized.

According to him, Chief disagreed strongly with Mrs. Fatima Bio taking a seat at the High Table which was preserved for National Officers and Flagbearer aspirants of the Party, while she was just an aspirant’s wife.

The preferential treatment given to Bio against other Flagbearer Aspirants in the Session, was enormous to a point he was allowed to bring his personal bodyguards to the Hall while others were not allowed.

Most individuals are questioning if this walk-out would not affect the would-be party’s Presidential candidate in the national election, as it was rumoured by few party members in the Holly Trinity Hall Premises where the convention is being held, that the National Chairman and Leader went away with the certified delegates list.
