The Alliance of Aspirants in the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party is unable to arrive at a unified candidate who all the other aspirants will support in the race for flag bearer in the party, reports reaching Salone Times has revealed.
The reports further state that several attempts to get a unified candidate in the alliance have faced a stalemate because of ego and deep-seated hatred amongst members of the Alliance.
This comes at a time Supporters of candidates in the Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP) Alliance of All Aspirants (AAA) have been making ceaseless calls for the Alliance to come up with a unified candidate that will contest Julius Maada Bio.
According to information gathered by Salone Times, it a truism that there is no other candidate in the Alliance that has a solid political movement both locally and internationally other than the former United Nations strong Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella but that he is unable to convince his colleagues to throw their supports behind him.
The reason for this is because KKY has serious problems with even his Northern Brother, Alpha Timbo who cannot throw his support behind KKY for any reason and former Chairman of the SLPP John Oponjo Benjamin who believes that the consensus candidate of the Alliance should come from the east.
The other reason SALONE TIMES learnt is because KKY himself is fastidious and cannot play second fiddle to anyone in the Alliance and that he believed if he is not him, then there should be no other person.
The reports further notes that there are only two people among the strong contenders in the Alliance that are very reconciliatory and can accept anyone that can become leader of the Alliance- Ambassador Bon-Wurie and Andrew Karmoh Keili.
This deadlock situation in the Alliance has made Pa-O-Pa Maada Bio more emboldened because according to political if all the aspirants in the Alliance go into the convention, there is no way they could individually win against Maada Bio.
