Sierra Leoneans have raised concern over the tight lip policy of both the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and Office of National Security (ONS) that have kept them incommunicado on the “trashgate” that has to do with the former Minister of Information and Communication, IB Kargbo who is now Member of Parliament.
It could be recalled that a Lebanese Newspaper exposed a dubious deal in which the newspaper reported that the Government of Sierra Leone has agreed for over 2,000 ton of Lebanese trash to be imported into Sierra Leone on a fees to be paid .
As soon as the Newspaper report was circulated on social media in Sierra Leone , the President, Ernest Bai Koroma was quick to ask both ONS and SLP to investigate the matter as according to him, his Government did not order anyone to do such deal.
It was later revealed that the President own adviser who is now a Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Ben Kargbo had written a letter to the Lebanese Authority, facilitating the process of importing 2,000 tons of trash into Sierra Leone IB Kargbo was reportedly invited to the Criminal Investigation Department with three other people including a Lebanese Business Man but after the interview at the CID, IB Kargbo allegedly attending a meeting at State House The Former Presidential Adviser had earlier told the BBC that he informed the selected Vice President, Victor Boackarie Foh on the importation of the trash from Lebanon.
Ever since the interview at the CID of IB Kargbo and his alleged accomplices, the people have been kept incommunicado with regards the progress of the case.
Meanwhile the Police Spokes Man told Salone Times that they are still investigating the matter.
