Contemporary politics has become competitive and of course a serious business, this to a point has seen Presidential Candidates the world over take upon themselves campaigning with their wives and children.

Although it isn’t the wives that will be running for the Presidency, their presence, no doubt, add values to their husbands Presidential Campaigns for the Presidency.

The issue of First Lady and First Family phenomenon started in the United States where incidentally wives of presidential candidates have to be discussed, to make way for informed opinion on the part of the electorates.

Wives are even given the opportunity to endorse their husbands as presumptive presidential nominees during party conventions so that the public will be able to assess the capacity of their would-be first lady.

This idea is now a Global initiative and it is seen in Europe, United Kingdom and Africa where Presidential Aspirants never-ending showcase their wives for public scrutiny.

Of course, Sierra Leone has not been an exception, as we have seen Presidential Candidates and Running Mates moving up and down with their wives in recent past presidential elections.

Mrs Fatima Bio, wife of main opposition SLPP flagbearer, Julius Maada Bio, on number of occasions, has been seen campaigning with her husband, that which speaks to the fact that she is indeed a helpmate and may likewise make-do same if her husband is elected president.

Another example is the presumptive flagbearer of the recently registered NGC party, Kandeh Yumkella, who has been seen in public with her wife Mrs Philomena Yumkella, which also reveals that the latter is but a strong supporter of her husband.

However, that has not been seen with the handpicked Presidential Candidate of the ruling APC, Samura Kamara.

Many people who know Kamara say “he evidently will not move around with her wife because it is possible the wife may unconsciously reveal his actual age- which presumably reads to be 72 and not 66 as widely talked about.

Close friends and school mates have told New Age that Kamara’s age is way above the propagated 66.
Many issues have cast doubt on Kamara’s APC candidature, those having to do with his date of birth, his PhD (which many alleged was faked up), including allegations pointing to his involvement in thing noxious as was recently whipped up by the Public Relations Officer of the main opposition SLPP.

On the issue of academic fraud, a UK Guardian Newspaper has stated that Samura’s PhD thesis was never accepted at all.

This, however, has seen social media users posting information compelling him come clean on whether he has a PhD or not, or that he may have been claiming to have one, so as to enable him occupy lucrative public offices as has been seen over the years.

And on the other hand, that Sierra Leone is likely to see a presidential candidate with an old woman as wife and would-be First Lady.
