President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is due to attend the OIC (Organization of Islamic Countries) conference expected to be held in Istanbul, Turkey next week.
After the conference, the President is expected to pay a visit to neighbouring Lebanon, where he is expected to hold high-level meetings with Lebanese government officials including the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berie.
President Koroma will be the first sitting Head of State of Sierra Leone to visit Lebanon in over thirty years, according to diplomatic sources in Beirut. There has been a quiet diplomatic relationship between Lebanon and Sierra Leone.
President Koroma is expected to officially open a new Consular Office in Beirut to service the needs of visa applicants in the Middle East who would want to visit Sierra Leone.
The President’s visit to Lebanon will be a watershed moment in diplomatic relations between Sierra Leone and Lebanon.
