The saying that the prayer of the righteous man availeth much cannot be wrong in the case of Theresa Tenneh O’Neil, newly-approved Board Member Public Service Commission.
In an exclusive interview yesterday after her approval by the House of Sierra Leone Parliament, she explained that the secret behind her elevation and appointment by President Ernest Bai Koroma is as a result of her fervent prayer.
She said: “I am feeling happy today that Parliament has approved my appointment by the President. I am happy with my heavenly Father because it is only God that can this for me; prayer is the only way to communicate to God, when you talk to God through prayer, God will answer you like God has answered my prayer, the session was simple and everything went on well,” underscoring the point that the heart of kings and queens are in the hands of God almighty.
She said: “I think it is because of my prayer that is why the President nominated me; it is only prayer that can do that, prayer is the key to success.”
Theresa however takes pride in being a fervent Christian and follower of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. She is the young women’s President at her Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saint and she is a strong motherly figure to many young women. She said that she always encouraged women to pay attention to the future, “because it is only education that will make them whole.”
Theresa noted that her appointment and approval is a testament of women’s empowerment under the present government adding that she is very happy that the gospel of God is being made manifest in her life.
“This is what I have been preaching to the world; I have been a facilitator for Young Women Leaders Sierra Leone facilitating training for women across the country, for women to stand up for their rights; let them go into politics, let them take vital position in the country so that the name of women will be rising.”
Madam O’Neil is a member of the APC and is the APC Women’s Leader Bonthe District but she stressed that it is God that did it for her.
She said: “To those that are in doubt, I want to tell them that there is a God that lives; if you pray to God with fervent attention the lord will answer your prayer.
I want to tell the public that politics and the things of God are interrelated and very important, it is part of life, if you are politicians you are a servant of the people, this is a godly act because it gives help to the needy, women and everybody. Politics will not make me unable to serve my God fervently. To the women of Sierra Leone, I say arise.”
