Diplomatic sources say SierraLeone’s electoral commission has halted the tallying of votes after the two parties in the presidential runoff election could not agree on which system to use to collate the results from polling stations.

The ruling APC party are fine with the use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet while the opposition SLPP want the existing system which they argue is foolproof.

This could affect the expected announcement today of the result.

To break the logjam frenetic mediatory meetings will continue this morning led by the head of the United Nations West Africa and Sahel office, Mohamed Ibn Chambas.
