An alleged 10 year old rape victim has testified before Justice Miatta Samba that the accused, Foday Bendu, threatens to “kill me if I disclosed the incident to anyone,” adding that was why “I kept it secret until when my mother saw my blood stained pantie.”
Led in evidence by State Counsel, AJM Bockarie, on the 17th February 2016, the victim said she recognized the accused, adding that he (accused) was staying with them (victim and mother) in their apartment, stating that for some reason the accused moved into Aunty Mummy’s apartment opposite theirs.
She explained that on the 11th September 2014, while she was watching film in Aunty Mummy’s apartment, the accused came with some stuff including slippers and informed her that her mother sent him (accused) to give them to her.
On my way to our apartment to keep the stuff, victim continued “the accused told me to come back to him after I have dropped the stuff. I did exactly what he told me.”
On my return to him, witness said “accused took me to his room, lay me on the bed, and remove my trousers and pantie. The accused then put his fingers inside my private part for some time and later asked me to get up and dressed up,” stating that she felt so bad and started crying.
“The accused then told me that if I tell anyone he will kill me, so I dressed up, wipe my tears and return to my apartment,” adding that she bathe and “placed her pantie which was stained with blood” in the basket where the unclean clothing are.”
Victim said she did not inform her mother on her return from work because she (victim) had gone to bed, adding that early in the morning her mother woke up to launder when she saw the pantie which was stained with blood.
Witness said her mother woke her up and asked about the stained pantie. She told her mother that “it was Foday Bendu that rapped me” She said her mother then explained it to Aunty Mummy.
Witness said her mother and Aunty Mummy called the accused in her (victim) presence and asked him about the alleged crime, but that the accused denied and when he was threatened that they will call the police he confessed.
Witness concluded that they (herself and mother) made statement to the police and was issued a medical report which they took to the Rainbow Centre for medical check-up.
The accused, who is standing trial at the High Court for sexual penetration of a child contrary to law, is being remanded at the Male Correctional Centre.
The matter was adjourned to the 24th February 2016.
