Barely two days after he was sworn-in as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio established a Governance Transition Team.
Among other functions, the Transition Team will “Conduct an immediate stock-taking exercise of the state of affairs of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)”. The mandate of the Transition Team is expected to end for only two weeks. This team will report its finding to the President who will use it as a guide for his new administration.
With only six days in office, some disgruntled APC supporters have started criticizing the new President for action that their own government failed to take in ten years.
They continue to unnecessary blame President Bio for not acting tough on the issue of post-election violence. This, in our view, is very unfair. How can you accuse the new President of not instilling discipline across the country when the man is only six days old in office?
Some people have even started calling on the new President to implement the free education which he promised the electorate during the campaign period. How can the man implement free education when he has not even appointed Cabinet Ministers yet? People have to exercise patience as the new President consolidates his grip on power. So far, there are several saboteurs around.
Until the new President completes the formation of his government, people should be patient with him. After all, the man is not a magician. This government is determined to succeed. Those who want to undermine this government will have no one to blame but themselves if they are shown the exit door.
Let us allow President Bio to settle down properly before we start criticizing him. The point has to be emphasized that, President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio is not a magician.
