Sierra Leone music has been dealt a big blow after the west African country failed scoop a single award at the onoing MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016 that was held on Saturday in Ticketpro Dome, South Africa.
Sierra Leone has officially lost out in the quest to bring home an internationally recognized African award after music group LXG couldn’t beat it’s counterparts vote to earn the fans choice under the Listeners Choice category.
LXG, one of the high-rated Sierra Leonean music groups was nominated for this year’s MAMA Awards under the ‘Listener’s Choice’ category. They are the first artist in the history of Sierra Leone music to be nominated for the prestigious Awards.
Unfortunately, the ‘Galadu’ hit makers lost out to Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah who clinched the award tonight among other contestants.
In this sixth edition of the MTV (MAMA) awards, Nigerians scooped the most coveted categories with Yemi Alade and Wizkid named as the Best female and male artistes respectively. The event is still underway as we publish!
