The Director of Administration at Lion Stones Diamond (a registered diamond exporting company in Sierra Leone), Mr. Foday T. Bayoh has told newsmen in Freetown that his company will be bidding to buy the 709.48 carats diamond that was found in Kono district recently.
Mr. Bayoh said that, representatives of his company will be arriving in the country this week from Belgium to take “active part in the bidding process”.
The usually-courtly dressed and very impressive looking Mr. Bayoh said, “I have the greatest confidence in the ability of my company to buy this diamond because we are operating both locally and internationally’.
Mr. Bayoh disclosed that, he was aware that, a good number of foreign buyers have also manifested interest in taking part in the bidding process.
Meanwhile, popular Israeli diamond miner and exporter, Max Bradwein has told the Global Times that, he welcomes the decision taken by the Government of Sierra Leone to put the diamond out on public tender. “This shows that the government of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is very transparent and accountable to the people of this country,” Mr. Bradwein told the Global Times.
He said his company, Pluto Mining Company Limited might be tempted to take part in the bidding process to purchase the 709.48 carats diamond discovered at the Tankoro Chiefdom in the Kono distract.
