Police in Sierra Leone have confirmed that presidential adviser and Member of Parliament-elect, Alhaji IB Kargbo has been “invited” for questioning – a euphemism for having been arrested.
A source at the Criminal Investigations Department said that the arrest was in connection with his alleged approval of an agreement to bring in waste from Lebanon.
Kargbo has denied the allegations saying he only provided guidelines and neither solicited nor accepted any fee.
However, a letter sent by Kargbo to the Lebanese authorities shows that the Presidential spokesman did more than “providing guidelines”.
“…your proposal to ship the non-hazardous material is acceptable pending further negotiations through your local agents in Sierra Leone.”, Kargbo wrote in the letter that was leaked earlier today.
Also invited for questioning is a Lebanese national in Freetown.
