Indigenes of Port Loko district have been meeting to unite the district through the refurbishing of the first ever party office and the reintroduction of their flagship program, the Self Help Project.
In a series of fundraising activities, a dinner was held at Hotel Barmoi under the Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma. The Vice President Hon Victor Foh was Grand Chief Patron. The dinner was held on Saturday February 13 instant, the morning of the launching of the Malimba group.
The Port Loko people expected the President and team to show up for the dinner to give it its desired and deserved colors. After waiting in vain for the President, the dinner that was scheduled for 8pm finally kicked off at 10:35pm.
The Port Loko people were further angered by the absence of the VP and government ministers. In fact no minister was there except Hon. Kemoh Sesay.
Port Loko indigenes now feel that they have been used and dumped by the party leadership which now prefers the Limba hegemony to the ever faithful Port Loko district, which is seen as the political district of the APC party.
Port Loko district for a long time has been tagged as a divided district, with various camps running in different directions – center cannot hold.
But the recent strides to refurbish the Bai Bureh Hall and the reintroduction of the Self Help program have almost cemented the cracks that once existed. The Port Loko people now speak with one voice.
Speaking on the basis of anonymity, a top government person informed Sierraloaded that the absence of party stalwarts at the dinner may not be unconnected with what he termed as Port Loko’s desperation for the Flag bearer position. It is believed that President Koroma promised to pass the baton to someone from Port Loko due to the support the former rendered to the latter in the 2005 APC Congress.
Coincidentally, that very Congress was held at the Bai Bureh Hall. That same conference and place saw President Koroma handed over the mantle of leadership of the party and Hon Victor Foh becoming the Scribe.
“It is an unfortunate situation for the people of Port Loko to receive such a dastardly blow by the party hierarchy.” the source stated
