Former chairman and leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) John Oponjo Benjamin referred to the current chairman and leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray as a prodigal of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party.
Mr. Benjamin, who is also currently one of the leading contenders for the 2018 Presidential ticket of the SLPP, made this statement to Awareness Times Newspaper on Wednesday 19th April 2017, whilst reacting to statements earlier made against the SLPP by the current chairman and leader of the ADP Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray over a possible coalition between the SLPP and the ADP in the next Presidential election slatted for 2018.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, who is also now the presidential candidate for the ADP, yesterday during a telephone interview with Awareness Times Newspaper, said his party will never form any Alliance with either the main opposition SLPP or the ruling APC. He described the SLPP as “a party that does not seek the interest of the citizens.” The ADP strongman added that “the SLPP had a failed regime in governance, so I am not sure if the party will bring any new change to Sierra Leoneans.” Therefore, he said “the ADP will never form an alliance with the SLPP.”
However, whilst reacting to the position of the ADP Presidential aspirant, John Oponjo Benjamin said “Mohamed Kamarainba has no genuine course of forming an opposition party,” but rather, “he went to form the ADP because he was denied membership by the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party.” Mr. Benjamin furthered, “Kamarainba is a selfish man who only wants good things for himself.” He referred to Kamarainba as a by-product of APC.
He said, “Kamarainba is still APC, and would definitely return to the APC someday.”
Whilst reacting to Kamarainba’s claims of corruption and mismanagement in the former SLPP led government between 1996 and 2007, and as a possible reason why he would not form an alliance with the SLPP, the potential SLPP presidential aspirant now reacted by saying that “Kamarainba himself has not any genuine intention to oppose the ruling APC government,” but rather he is now raining heavily on the APC because he was rejected from the party.
He added that Kamarainba is on a mission of revenge.
Therefore, he said “SLPP will also not form an alliance with ADP because Kamarainba is not trustworthy.”
Kamarainba still insist that his party will not form any alliance with either the APC or the SLPP in the coming 2018 election, but that he is ready to welcome breakaway fractions from the two political parties so that he could claim State House. Reacting to this, John Benjamin said “Kamarainba is a complete prodigal,” and that he said, the statement is infact an insult to both the APC and the SLPP whom Benjamin said “have very firm political base in Sierra Leone, unlike the ADP which is still unpopular.”
